A Christmas Affair with Sesame Street

Yesterday was Boxing Day. I went to Snow City with my RSPVH friends. The first time I went to Snow City was when I was 13. I was one of the top 5 students for my Science examinations in every class to have that opportunity.

We were divided into 4 groups, namely Elmo, Big Bird, Bert and Cookie Monster (my group). I spoke to JK who told me that he had lots of Mathematics holiday homework to do when I asked him how he spent his holidays. Poor boy. Before we went to Snow City, we would have 3 games.

Game 1: Building a Tower

Each group was given newspapers, masking tape and a pair of scissors. We were supposed to build the tallest tower with whatever we had. J suggested that we made SW a tower. We started wrapping him with newspapers. He also wrapped my white cane with newspapers which would be used as his weapon. Our group got the tallest tower (1.79 m +46-inch white cane)!

Game 2: Telematch

Round 1:

There were 3 cups of water arranged in a line. There was a ping-pong ball in the first cup. We were supposed to blow the ball into the second cup, then into the third cup.

Round 2:

We kicked a ball into a box some distance away.

Round 3:

We were supposed to turn 5 rounds with an umbrella. After that, we had to throw balls (with bells inside) into a box which E kept shaking to let us know where the box was located. Within 20 seconds, we had to throw as many balls in as possible.

Game 3:

We were supposed to eat some weird food. Within 5 minutes, the group which ate the most won. A volunteer fed the VH. It smelled and tasted horrible. Haha...

Lastly, we had to pass a piece of bread from one end of the line to the other end with our cheeks.

After all that, it was time to make our way to Snow City.

As it was a Sunday, the place was very crowded. Everything there was chaotic. All gloves were soaking wet. I believe the staff went to warm up the gloves as the pair I was given felt warm. Each of us wore a thick jacket. As N, A and I were wearing covered shoes, the 3 of us could go in.

After a decade, Snow City hasn't changed. Instead of the sand in playground, the ground was covered with snow. We had to climb up and down many steps to go up to the slide. Each of us took a float and we all stood in queue for our turns down the slide. J and E were in front of us. They wanted to see if there would be smoke when they spoke. J said he was smoking. Haha... I asked if his nose had smoke too.

Next, it was our turn. A, N and I interlocked arms as we went down. A was very frightened but we said as long we interlocked our arms, we would be fine. Halfway along the way, we slided down backwards and all of us screamed our heads off. The 3 of us went outside to "thaw". J asked if we wanted to go in again and the 5 of us walked inside. This time, it took a shorter time as many already had their turn. For both times, we were given a "pushing" hand as we went down but the second time was so much more fun as we were pushed down on the ice and we moved down very fast! G kept throwing snow at A. Poor girl!

We had McDonald's for dinner. We had a burger, a packet of fries and a can of Coca-Cola. I told A that it's like déjà vu. We were at the Science Centre in March. CP dressed up as Santa Claus and gave us presents. A strange Santa Claus who is a bit thinner and said "Ha Ha Ha" instead of "Ho Ho Ho"! They celebrated the birthdays for those born in December. I had a slice of strawberry cake. No one ate the slices of turkey I think. I tried those before and really hated it. =P

The Cookie Monster group got a prize. I got a cup with Eeyore printed on it. My brother asked why they didn't give me Winnie instead? I told him that a donkey plays a very important role in Christmas. My mother also heard of the story "The Small One" when she was in school before.

When Cookie Monster group was taking a group photo, I told them to show the letter "c" instead of the usual "v". We couldn't decide which way to show that letter. Suddenly, we heard the person taking the photograph say "OK". I bet that photograph would turn out funny. J gave me a box of sweets. Thank you very much.

At Sengkang MRT, A brought E and HS to the toilet while the rest of us waited. After half an hour, they finally came back. A, LY, A, HS and C alighted at Bedok MRT. When C heard that I could only get off at the next bus-stop, C offered to alight there too. Uncle P told her to get off at Bedok too and that he would drive me home. How nice!!

This is what Z just told me over Windows Live Messenger:

There is an igloo inside Snow City. How cool. I missed it twice now! He told me the snow felt like ice shavings. There was a snowman, a bench and a skimobile. You had to crawl under the door, a tunnel then the main chamber which you could only sit. Z, his girlfriend, A, J and WB could sit inside, pretty spacious.

We said we might want to go there another time when it wasn't that crowded. =)
